Male Passenger Nabbed With Illegal Handgun In Route 52 Stop

A local man is facing a weapons charge after being busted by police in East Fishkill with an illegal handgun while he was the passenger of a car stopped for a routine violation in Stormville.

An officer from the East Fishkill Police Department conducted a traffic stop at approximately 6 p.m. on Monday night in Stormville, when the 26-year-old Fishkill woman driving the vehicle committed an undisclosed violation.

During the stop, police said that the driver - whose name was not released - was in possession of marijuana, leading to further investigation. During the search of the car, officers discovered an unregistered Glock 9mm handgun, which belonged to the passenger, Fishkill resident Nicholas Corbett, 36, who did not have a handgun permit.

The driver was cited for possession of marijuana, while Corbett was arrested and charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony. He was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail following arraignment in lieu of $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 bond. He is due back in court later this year to answer the charge.
